BioFriends (CEO Cho Won-joon) will showcase products and technologies related to smart farm application, such as hydrogen fuel cell systems and power generation systems using clean energy (DME), a carbon-neutral fuel, at the "GREEN & AGRITECH ASIA 2023" held at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju from August 30th to September 1st.

In the upcoming era of carbon neutrality, Biofriends Inc. introduced DME in Korea to build an energy platform to supply carbon neutral fuels in domestic and overseas markets and established a company for projects that use it as low-carbon fuel or as carbon neutral fuel and hydrogen carriers.

Carbon-neutral fuel clean energy DME is attracting attention as a next-generation clean fuel because its physical properties are similar to LPG, so it is easy to store and transport, and it emits almost no air pollutants when burned. It is used as a mixed fuel of LPG-DME and has a cetane value similar to that of diesel fuel, so it is used as a diesel alternative fuel.

In addition, DME is a carbon-neutral fuel produced using CCU technology from biogas such as livestock manure discharged from agriculture and food wastewater treatment facilities, or carbon dioxide discharged from industry. The reforming system for producing hydrogen using DME is Compared to the case of using hydrocarbon fuels such as natural gas, the reforming temperature is as low as about 400~450℃ and the carbon monoxide concentration is low, which can contribute to miniaturization.

Biofriends Co., Ltd. is a method of collecting carbon dioxide generated from smart farms to increase power supply and energy efficiency and use it for crop growth. As a multi-ministry package innovation technology development project, we are carrying out a project to install distributed fuel cells to produce electricity and heat and supply them to greenhouses, which are smart farms.

BioFriends Inc. is demonstrating the process of producing methanol and DME by collecting CO2 generated in the cement industry through a government research project, and is conducting research to apply DME hydrogen reformers and generators to smart farms and plant factories.

In addition, it will provide solutions to reduce CO2 in CO2 multi-emission industries such as oil refining and steel as well as the cement industry, and expand the supply of DME as eco-friendly fuels such as LPG-DME mixed fuel and diesel alternative fuel.
