Biofriends Inc. (CEO Wonjun Cho), a leading new and renewable energy company, held the completion ceremony for its second factory in Boeun Industrial Complex on August 31.

About 200 people, including National Assembly member Park Deok-heum, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Myeong-gyu, County Governor Choi Jae-hyung, County Chairman Choi Bu-rim, Provincial Assemblyman Park Gyeong-sook, Korea Automotive Research Institute Director Na Seung-sik, as well as internal and external VIPs and officials, attended to celebrate the completion of the construction.

At this event, CEO Wonjun Cho said, “We have completed the second plant to respond to the global warming and climate change crisis by producing low-carbon, eco-friendly fuels such as DME, methanol, and hydrogen fuel.” He added, “We will be able to respond to the needs of society and the future.” “I will do my best to make it happen,” he said.

Myeonggyu Kim, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, said, “In a reality where global climate change is serious due to carbon emissions, it is a matter of great pride that Biofriends Co., Ltd., located in North Chungcheong Province, produces renewable energy dimethyl ether (DME),” and prayed for continued development.

County Governor Jaehyung Choi also said, “Expanding facilities and investing despite the COVID-19 incident and global economic recession proves the potential for development,” and added, “Today’s completion of the second factory is an opportunity for Biofriends, a leading company in the DME field, to grow together in our Boeun County.” “I hope to repeat this,” he said.

Biofriends Inc. is a company that produces DME, a carbon-neutral fuel and renewable energy, and also recorded sales of 14.7 billion won in 2022 through businesses such as hydrogen extraction devices and hydrogen charging, growing 165% compared to 2021.


Founded in 2016, ByFriends Inc. moved into the first factory in Boeun Industrial Complex in 2018, just five years ago, and began full-fledged production, and now about 50 employees are working.


The second plant, which was completed this time, was built under an investment agreement worth 18 billion won signed with Boeun-gun in 2021, and plans to build a third plant in Boeun in the future as demand continues to increase at home and abroad. 


In fact, BioFriends Inc. has been demanded to produce DME with our technology in Indonesia, Norway, Turkey, and Kuwait.

The representative result signed an agreement with Indonesian company PT Buto in 2022 to build a 5,000-ton annual production plant.


 BioFriends Inc. is expected to continue to develop as it plans to expand its business area to produce hydrogen fuel and conductive carbon (ECB) in the future, not DME.
